Frequently asked questions
Does Black Onyx Dog Training use Training Tools?
Yes, we believe in agreeing (rewarding) the right choices and disagreeing (correcting) the wrong choices. We train and teach dogs with a lot of rewards and praise! When they know the expectations, we then start to pair in corrections. We properly condition all training tools (prong, starmark collar, e-collar) so they understand what it means and how to turn off the pressure. They are communication tools that provide many benefits and freedom!
How long will I need to use the training tools?
Why stop what’s working? Try not to look at it as a goal of when can you ditch the tools, but look at it in a way of how much the tools are helping! Eventually, you may not need them as often - but consistency for quite some time is important. If you start to pick and choose when you use the equipment, your dog will pick and choose when it wants to listen.
What is the transition back home like?
The first couple days to a week can feel a little overwhelming. While it is new rules and structure for your dog, it is also the same for you as the owner. Being consistent at home and holding your dog accountable is the most crucial part for a successful transition home.
What do I need to bring for my dogs Stay & Train?
Enough food for their stay and a copy of up to date vaccination records (rabies, distemper, and bordatella are required)! We will take care of the rest!
Do you train both puppies and adult dogs?
Yes, we can help you with any age dog!
My dog has behavioral issues, can you help?
Yes! Depending on the severity, I may refer out so you get the best possible help - otherwise we may just need to work on a custom stay & train to fit the needs of your dog (examples - 4 weeks vs 3, more focus on behavior modification than other inclusions, etc.)
Do you offer payment plans?
For Stay & Train programs, a $500 non-refundable deposit is due at booking and the remaining balance is due at drop off. For Private Lessons a $350 non-refundable deposit is due at booking and the remaining balance is due by the first lesson.
